Unearthing Search Terms on Shared Sites
If you are interested in seeing what search terms people are using to find you on shared sites (for example: http://etsy.com or http://livejournal.com), here is a handy trick. The first thing to note is that the site must have a search. Any communal site with a site-specific search bar should be able to use this trick. Now, go to google and type in the following things *your user name
*the site name (not url)
*"search results" For example, I have a site on Etsy.com. Let's say that I want to know what users on Etsy are searching for to land on my shop. I would type in "mrsdragon etsy search results" to google. (Look at the attached images to "see" what I am describing.) On the results page the second result will have a link under it that says "More results from Etsy.com" (where Etsy.com is the site I'm searching. If you were searching another site, that's the name to look for.) Click that link. The new page that comes up will be a page of search results. The third line of each result is a link . The link will end with "=blahblahblah". Whatever blahblahblah is, is what people searched for! |
